Alpha lives with his parents and two sisters in a poor community in Freetown where it regularly floods during the rainy season. Flooding and poor sanitation expose many children to communicable diseases. Typically, families in this area live in small metal shacks with thatched roofs. Like many parents in the community, his parents struggle to provide for the family. His father makes a living as a local tailor while his mother runs a small daycare center. To help out his parents, Alpha fetches water every day.

Alpha's favorite subjects are Mathematics and English. He loves to read and play football and hopes to become a doctor when he grows up.
