Lamin lives with his parents, two sisters, and two brothers in a three-room zinc-roofed house that tends to flood during the rainy season because it is near a swamp.

Lamin's father hasn't been able to find regular work for the past ten years, so his mother's small shop in the local market is the family's only source of income. To help out the family, Lamin and his siblings regularly go out at night to fetch water from street pipes.

Despite experiencing so much hardship, Lamin continues to excel at school and is top of his class. He loves to read. His favorite subjects are Mathematics and English.

Lamin dreams of becoming a doctor when he grows up to save lives and help the people in his community.
