Samuel lives with his dad and five siblings in a two-room house in the village of Bathurst, located just outside Freetown along the mountainous coast. His dad makes a meager living working the dangerous small-scale coal mines dotting the area. Samuel's mother passed away recently making it even more challenging for his dad to support all of the children.

Samuel attends a local primary school and is in class 5. His favorite subject is English and his favorite activity is playing football. He dreams of becoming a lawyer when he grows up so he can fight for justice in his country.
